Yashodhara Lal is the author of two bestselling books – “Just Married, Please Excuse” and “Sorting Out Sid”. “There’s Something About You” is her third book and I must say that this one is surely a treat to read.

The story is of a 28-year-old girl who is fat, unemployed, confused and lives with her parents in the glitzy city of Mumbai.

Trish is recently fired from her long time job at a leading media house in Mumbai.

Reason: With her ill-fitted kurtas and casual dressing sense she isn’t cut out to trot heels along with those impeccably dressed runway-model-look-alike colleagues of hers.

Result: Despite the seven-plus years of hard work that she has put in the company and her unquestionable talent, she is shown the exit door.

Now Trish is all alone, without a true friend, no boyfriend, no job, no prospect of marriage (not that she wants it anyway!) and with too-difficult-to-handle dependent parents who live with her in her sea-facing apartment on Bandstand.

Life looks nothing but bleak for Trish until she stumbles upon two things – work as a part-time agony aunt column which makes sure she doesn’t have to beg, borrow and steal to sustain herself and her parents and a charming 35-year-old guy who is weird, twisted and yet impressive in his own ways.

So what will happen to Trish? Will she find her true calling in this new job profile or will she continue being clueless about what she wants to do in her life? Will Sahil, the weird guy charm his way into her life and will Trish open up to him?

Know this and much more in this interesting little tale of romance, friendship and self-discovery.

“There’s Something About You” is essentially a romance novel but not in the mushy or cheeky sort of way.

In fact, it’s just the opposite and may also be categorized as a contemporary women fiction or a chick-lit novel. It has just the right amount of romance, glamour, wittiness, drama and fun which makes it an un-put-down-able read.

The storyline is strong and there is just a single plot which runs throughout the course of the book.

The story is quite unpredictable and often brings new twists and turns at the end of each chapter which makes the reader admire the author’s writing style.

The characters are also quite impressive and well developed. They all have a certain depth about them which makes you fall in love with them and keeps you wanting for more.

I liked the characters of Trish, her mother, her friend Aakanksha and even her bitchy colleagues Nivedita and Zee.

The climax is a little predictable with the girl and the boy falling in love and living happily ever after, but from what I conclude any other climax would have been highly inappropriate so predictability wasn’t necessarily an issue.

“There’s Something About You” is a fun and interesting read and I would recommend it not just to the chick-lit lovers but lovers of all sorts of fiction.
